July 29 – Devotional

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.  I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no on can snatch them out of my hand.  John 10:27-28

Mankind is often referred to in the bible as “sheep.”  Sheep were considered feeble creatures, that were often preyed upon by predators and often led astray, needing to be herded back to the shepherd.  As a sheep in God’s flock, this analogy speaks to my heart.  Being human, I’m often finding myself led astray, distracted by the things of the world and the temptations of the flesh, and falling short of what God called me to be.

But I can hear God calling to my soul.  And I know his voice, because the pastures I’m led to when I live my life according to the Spirit is filled with peace amidst adversity.  I am reminded every morning of the clean slate I am given, and of his voice, urging me to be walk that straight and narrow path…and to avoid the temptations of that wide road that leads to death.

He will find you were you are at.  No matter how lost you feel.  Just seek him!
